Frequently Asked Questions
Do you do direct billing?
Yes we directly bill most major insurance companies, such as Pacific Blue Cross, ClaimSecure, Groupsource, GroupHEALTH, Desjardins, CINUP, Chambers of Commerce, IA, Manulife, Johnson, Canada Life and others. Reach out and ask if yours is included here.
If I have a sports injury can I still come to Elemental Acupuncture?
We would absolutely never turn anyone away however our focus of study is definitely not body mechanics. We would fully recommend going to an acupuncturist who can help you to achieve the harmony that you wish in your physical body.
A recommendation in this area would be Derek Gouweleeuw from Golden Lion Sports Medicine. His number is 250-710-1955.
Do Acupuncture needles hurt?
The type of acupuncture that we do here at Elemental is virtually painless. You may feel a bit of discomfort when the needle goes in but any needle discomfort usually doesn’t last long. We use a very small gauge needle and the needles are inserted superficially. We tend to move energy in the room with moxa so the needles aren’t manipulated after insertion unless necessary for the treatment or preferred by you.
Because we are working on the energy and emotional body you may feel uncomfortable energy that comes to the surface but this will subside quickly. Twitching, heat, tingling and shaking can be normal parts of a treatment.
How often should I come in?
Because we are working on a deeper level there may be a need for time to integrate between appointments. You may also feel as though we opened up a big pattern and you would like to have more support. We will usually give homework and lifestyle changes that will be beneficial for the evolution of your journey between sessions as well as flower essences that will help you. If support is needed between sessions emailing is a good way to reach out and we will reply at our earliest convenience. The best answer to this question is we will intuitively gauge when you will need to return. Trust your own intuition and knowing and force your healing.
What is Acupuncture?
At its very basic level acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine that has recently started gaining popularity in North America. During treatment, very thin needles are inserted into specific points on the body. The stimulation of these acupuncture points affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It triggers the release of natural chemicals such as endorphins and enkephalins which have pain-relieving properties. It’s a simple, safe and effective healthcare technique that promotes the body’s ability to heal itself.

Does acupuncture just relieve pain, or will it treat the problem at the source?
Acupuncture can do both. The importance is on the intention of the treatment. If the patient’s intention is to go deeper into their healing than generally that is where the treatment will go. If they only are open to treating the symptoms then that is what will happen. It is determined by the patient’s readiness how deep the treatments want to go. It also depends on the intention of the practitioner. If the energy is open on all ends for deep healing than bigger transformations can occur.
Does the healing last or will I need to come back?
It depends on the readiness and willingness of the patient and the intention of the treatment but we find that putting focus on a trusting and safe relationship between patient and practitioner can most time be the deciding factor of long lasting results.
Why did you put that needle there?
We love this question. Please always ask if we don’t explain to you why a needle went somewhere. We treat each needle placement as a gateway to our whole being. It is tremendously helpful for you in building a relationship with your own energy field for you to know why needles go in specific places. We often will provide clients with a written intake describing what we can see and areas we feel would be a good focus point for our time together.
